When a bottle washes ashore, the unfolded layout puts the message on one side and its Bottle Journey on the other.
You can see the countries it has travelled through, the people who released it along the way and the total distance it has covered while deciding whether to keep it or release it back out to sea.
The main Bottles screen also takes advantage of the extra space. Your next incoming bottle appears alongside your Collections and Recent Activity, while your kept and sent bottles have more room below.
Rather than simply stretching the regular iPhone interface across a larger screen, Shorebound rearranges its content to make better use of the unfolded display.
Fold it and keep using Shorebound normally
On the outer display, Shorebound works much like it does on any other iPhone.
You can write and release a bottle, open one that has washed ashore, browse your bottles or reply to chats without opening the phone.
The navigation also adapts to the narrower outer display, moving to the side where needed to keep the interface clear.
One account across iPhone and iPad
Shorebound works on iPhone, iPhone Duo and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 26.2 or later.
Your bottles, chats and Collections are linked to your Shorebound account, so you can move between devices without starting over.
Shorebound is free to download and has no ads.

The globe shown in the unfolded Open Bottle screenshot was captured on a physical iPhone because the current iPhone Duo Simulator does not render it correctly.

Write a message, release it into the ocean and see where it ends up.
